THIS EXHIBITION HAS NOW FINISHED

Opens Saturday 13th February. Runs until 6th March

We are delighted to host a series of new paintings from up and comming artist Naomi Walker. Her paintings depict the dramatic and transient quality of the area’s countryside.  The majority of her work is created using mixed-media;  utilising strong colours and heavy textures to produce the landscape.

Naomi Jane Walker is a self-taught artist living in rural Northumberland and working from the Biscuit Tin Studios on Warwick Street in Newcastle-upon-tyne.  She worked for twelve years as an IT trainer before finally taking the plunge as a full-time artist at the beginning of last year.  Her first solo-exhibition, in August 2009, sold-out.  Since then,  she has had several more extremely successful exhibitions and also exhibited in October at the Newcastle Gateshead Arts Fair at The Sage.

“I find it fascinating that no scene is ever the same from moment to moment.  The north-east  is renowned for its far horizons and sparsely populated scenery.  Our  haunting, evocative skies create an impressive backdrop for the rugged countryside that never fails to inspire me.  Each season brings its own quality of light and magic to our largely untouched moorlands and wild opens-spaces.”

“I worked in Durham for nearly three years, driving all over the county to visit GP surgeries.  Many of my paintings feature views that I have glimpsed for only moments whilst passing by, yet remembered long after my journey’s completion.”
